Go on a 10-minute walk! -Short walking courses-

Get your body moving by adding walking to your daily activities

How much do you walk in a day?

The national government's Exercise and Physical Activity Guide for Health Promotion (Activity Guide)* recommends a target of walking 8,000 steps a day for men and women between the ages of 18 and 64 in order to prevent lifestyle diseases and the decline of vital functions. The guide also recommends “+10 (Plus Ten): Get your body moving 10 minutes more than now,” urging people that they can easily add “+10 (Plus Ten)” minutes of physical activity to their daily lives.

Accordingly, you too should take a look at the activities you engage in every day and see if you can get your body moving 10 more minutes than you do now. For example, try increasing the physical activity you get every day and maintaining that level by walking on the way to work or during your lunch break. One way to do this is to walk to or from one train station further down than usual. This page introduces two walking courses – the Yamanote Line Course and the Oedo Line Course – which can be used as guides for short, one station walks. The distance between any two adjacent stations on either of these courses is about a 10- to 20-minute walk (or 1,000 to 2,000 steps). Walking the distance of one extra station on the train line you normally ride can help you achieve your “+10 (Plus ten).”

Why not give a short and easy 10-minute walking course a try?
